When there is excessive usage of the hand in a sporting activity, there is damage to the elbow and the ailment is called ‘tennis elbow’. What part of the anatomy would aptly describe an ailment that would erupt when there is excessive ‘tennis watching’ ?
For, that is what I should be describing the activity for the day for me. Excessive Wimbledon !!
It has been a most rewarding day as far as watching quality tennis was concerned. The effort, the preparation and the concentration towards physical fitness all combining together for that one special moment, live on a court in front of a most discerning audience.
The fight back of Leyton Hewitt, the grit of Safina and then finally the tenacity of the Murray- Wawrinka game. Just so incredible.
Their dedication and belief towards the game. Their own years of anguish and devotion towards its learning and execution. All reaching proportions that defy reason and context. It is there for all to see. Like gladiators in a coliseum, they fight for their title, their aim to excel, their desire to rid themselves of their opponent. Point after tedious point, relentless in their pursuit for that victory they struggle and labor. Their entire retinue of trainers and coaches and fitness experts, managers and controllers, all working tirelessly for their client to succeed. What a massive and inspiring operation this is. To remain focussed at the game , its performance and the ultimate point of acquisition. The acquisition of a name in the hall of honors of this glorious sport. This regal sport. For there is something regal about tennis, particularly lawn tennis.
There is movement today. I finally step out and feel the air and smell the coffee. Its metaphorical. I do not drink and I do not drink coffee, but it was wonderful to be out in the evening into a rather crowded and noisy Italian restaurant. Nothing new. All Italian restaurants are noisy. The reception as you seek your booked table is animated, as are all in this environment. The owners and stewards and waiters, all happy and cheerful. Gesticulating in loud voice, singing and passing instructions. Waiters, pretending they are drunk as they take your order, almost falling over you, all in good spirit. The food and atmosphere full with a sense of loud cheer. Smiles and laughter all around. Pretty ladies, handsome men, young and old, all living and dining in the spirit of the moment. Some acquaintances from Mumbai and other places come up to exchange pleasantries. The food is good. The chatter on the world and society and Obama enlightening. The antecedents of the restaurant CIPRIANI elaborated.. there are several of them all over the world. The original opposite the Park in Manhattan is remembered. I remember it for other reasons. The last row in the seating area has a wall behind, on which I notice a hub cap of a car prominently hung. I had inquired the reason and purpose of the car part on the wall and was told that it belonged to a taxi. A taxi that had crashed through the front glass windows of the CIPRIANI in New York, after skidding on the main road in front. They had kept the hub cap as a token in remembrance of that accident.
Cute.. no ?
Ok bye.. off to bed and for the highlights of the days sporting… yeaaaah… baby ! TV… what DID we do without it all these years..?/!!1!?+*&&%$#!.. and that isn’t an abuse !!
Love to all… shubh ratri, shabba khair, namaskar, satsriakaal, aadab..
